THanks Andrew for setting this all Up! All the hard work and logistics to build this community and drive some change is really appreciate.

Reason we can't get fibre is that we have direct to exchange connection which OpenReach don't priorise.

What are the reasons for other areas further away from the exchange not getting fibre?

Openreach probably never expected small towns and villages such as Whitchurch to win the race to infinity. At the time of the competition, there was no real FTTP rollout. FTTC was the chosen technology at the time. The reason that exchange only lines could not have FTTC was because it was technically impossible to install FTTC inside an exchange (I believe they found a way many years later). This is why FTTP was used in the centre of the Town as a way to fulfill some of their promises for the winners.

Even when Openreach do expand their FTTP in Whitchurch it wont be 100% coverage. It's just no vibale.

I'm not sure why some people seem to think Openreach will do this anytime soon with someone suggesting June / July. I had FTTP on demand installed back in 2010 and it took 10 months from start to finish. The only way I could get any real updates was to look on https://one.network for scheduled roadworks / road closures and currently there is no sign of mass telephone works.
